Welcome to North of Parkway / Back Country

Back Country Greenwich is the large area of Greenwich north of the Merrit Parkway between the New York State line and Cos Cob. Back Country is bucolic and stunningly beautiful with rolling fields, trees and New England stone walls. The homes tend to be large on large land - the minimum plot size is 4 acres (although there are a few exceptions). The main roads that run north to south through back country are Riversville Road, Round Hill Road, Lake Avenue, North Street. Along these roads are beautiful homes on lovely land and similar homes lie down all the side streets. Although back country has a reputation as being less of a "community" than some of the other parts of town due to the homes being more spread out and more private, there is a strong community in back country forged by the schools and private associations - although more car dependent, there is no less of a community than other parts of Greenwich! Back Country is home to the Audobon Center, a wonderful hiking park of hundreds of acres, as well as the Ivan Lendle Tennis Club in the Banksville part of back country. Banksville also has a number of small food stores and a pharmacy.

The town of Armonk, NY, with wonderful food stores and restaurnats and fabulous supermarket is right on the border with much of back country Greenwich, so easy reach, and down town Greenwich is only a 15 minute drive away. The North West corner of Back Country is particularly easily accessible to NYC since it's very close to the I684 and also just a 15 minute drive from White Plains station that has frequent fast trains into NYC in just 30 minute train ride. Of course, you can also drive to Greenwich Station, about 15/20 minute drive from most houses max and commute to NYC from Greenwich station, but proximity to I684 and to White Plains, make North West corner of Back country a commuters dream. If you love a huge yard, open space and very spacious homes and with all the amenities of beach and downtown Greenwich, then back country is for you. The elementary school is the lovely Parkway Elementary school which feeds into Central Middle School and Western Middle School (depending where you live) and then into Greenwih High School. Back Country Greenwich is also very easily accessible to New York ski areas in the Catskills in just under 2 hours.
